I Snatched The Ballot Papers Out Of My Love For My Party And Akufo-Addo- Carlos Ahenkorah Reveals

Former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah has in an official statement revealed why he snatched ballot papers in parliament in the wake of the swearing-in ceremony of the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana.

If you could recall, during the inauguration of the 8th Ghanaian Parliament, Mr Carlos Ahenkorah was subject to attacks and criticisms after he snatched ballot papers while counting was ongoing to elect a new Speaker of Parliament.

But in a statement to justify why he snatched the ballot papers, the astute lawmaker who represents the Tema West Constituency asserted that his actions were motivated out of his love for the grassroots of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the President, H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who needs some peace to run the country and the party in general.

According to him, the election of Alban Bagbin, a renowned faithful of the New Democratic Congress is heartbreaking considering the fact that his appointment has now given the minority more room “tell us what they want and what they don’t in parliament because the whip system has been compromised.”

Part of his statement reads, “It’s a very tough situation to have opposition as speaker especially when he’s the president in the absence of Nana Addo and his vice not to mention how parliament would function by passing the presidents policies and laws to pave way for development. My colleagues on the majority side couldn’t help take advantage of my sacrifices to force a rerun and we’d to settle for an opposition speaker.”

He indicated that he will die for the NPP any day. Speaking on the whole situation he disclosed that “the NPP in me couldn’t be controlled” for which he apologises to his family and friends both far and near who may be affected by his actions.

“I must say I am heartbroken and dejected. We’ve not seen the end of this yet. With this success, they would tell us what they want and what they don’t in parliament because the whip system has been compromised. This is so sad. I’ll die for my party any day. I did it for the grassroots who relied on us in power to survive, the president who needs some peace to run the country and the greater NPP party as a whole because we cannot always allow the NDC to threaten and vilify us. I apologise though to my family and friends both far and near who may be affected by my actions. The NPP in me couldn’t be controlled. I apologise but I tried!!!” he added.
